Our Story
Dance Beyond started as a week-long retreat in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala and eventually became an annual festival in the Massachusetts as a collaboration between Ecstatic Dance NYC & Dance Lab NYC that brought together many conscious dance communities from throughout the Northeast.
We celebrate dance as a means for self and communal transformation and invite teachers, artists and healers who align with this intention to share their offerings at our events.
Beyond our annual festival, we have also hosted local gatherings in NYC featuring world-class facilitators and DJ’s like Porangui, Mose and more.
Founders
Myk Tummolo, aka. 2Melo
Myk is a DJ, musician and maker of magick based in NYC.
He is the co-founder of legendary global bass collective Cumba Mela, founder of JunXion NYC and producer of Ecstatic Dance NYC, fine purveyor of global bass, transnational grooves and magical happenings.
Omar Aena
Omar is a world music DJ, conscious event producer and cultural storyteller based in NYC.
His passion is in bringing people together to connect to their deepest, most true selves and to empower them to shine their light in service to liberation for all people, everywhere.
From facilitating local devotional gatherings in the NYC area, to leading pilgrimages in different countries around the world, to making films about sacred music and dance traditions, Omar's offerings reflect his experiences as a born & bred New Yorker with ancestral roots from Iraq, a student of the Sufi path and a lover of the sacred arts & world's mystic traditions.
